This lecture-only course provides an overview of relational databases, a thorough discussion of DB2 structure, and a brief introduction to SQL.

DB2 Application Development

4 days

Using a combination of lectures and lab work, this course covers the design and development of application programs that access DB2 databases.

The target audience includes application programmers with some coding experience.

DB2 Advanced SQL Topics

2 days

This course starts with a review of basic SQL, such as Select, Scalar Functions, Joins, SubQueries, Unions, and Insert/Update/Selects. Advanced SQL features are then presented. Hands-on practice reinforces the lectures. Students work in the current version of DB2, but the lectures also highlight changes coming in the next version.

The target audience includes experienced data processing personnel who have used SQL and need to refresh or deepen their current skills and learn to use advanced SQL features.

DB2 Application Performance Tuning

2 days

Lectures and extensive workshops allow the students to test the performance of several SQL statements, while reviewing advanced SQL features and special behaviors of SQL in areas such as Nulls, Scalar Functions, Joins, nested tables, and SubQueries. Performance issues are explored using the EXPLAIN feature and the PLAN_TABLE and DSN_STATEMNT_TABLE are analyzed in detail.

The target audience includes experienced data processing personnel who have used SQL and need to explore application performance and tuning issues.

DB2 UDB for OS/390 Data Sharing Implementation

2 days

This course is a lecture-only class designed to teach DB2 professionals the components of Data Sharing, how these components interact with OS/390 system services, and how to plan for and implement DB2 for OS/390 Data Sharing.

The target audience includes experienced DB2 Data Sharing professionals responsible for planning and implementing DB2 for OS/390 Data Sharing.

This course teaches methods that integrate DB2 technology into existing or new IMSADF applications. Hands-on exercises illustrate the use of DB2 tables with IMSADF and IADF.
