Introduction to C++

Description

The student will be introduced to C++ and learn how to write simple programs using character-based input and output. The emphasis is on C++ language constructs and how to use them with a lesser emphasis on program design and problem solving. This course also provides a foundation for those wishing to learn other object-oriented languages, such as Java and SmallTalk.

Audience

Programmers wanting to learn the basics of programming in an object-oriented language.

Prerequisite

Programming in any language, preferably C.

Objectives

Students will be able to:

  • declare and assign values to variables
  • transfer information between the computer and external devices
  • properly use arithmetic, relational, and logical operators
  • use loops to create iterative processes
  • create real and virtual classes
  • create class methods that receive arguments and return values
  • use arrays to manipulate information
