DB2 Application Performance Tuning

Description

Lectures and extensive workshops allow the students to test the performance of several SQL statements, while reviewing advanced SQL features and special behaviors of SQL in areas such as Nulls, Scalar Functions, Joins, nested tables, and SubQueries. Performance issues are explored using the EXPLAIN feature and the PLAN_TABLE and DSN_STATEMNT_TABLE are analyzed in detail.

Audience

Experienced data processing personnel who have used SQL and need to explore application performance and tuning issues.

Prerequisite

Six months experience using DB2 SQL.

Objectives

Students will be able to:

  • Discuss the special behavior of several SQL statements
  • Discuss overall DB2 performance considerations
  • Run the EXPLAIN PLAN SQL statement and analyze the results
  • Analyze the column values in the PLAN_TABLE
  • Analyze the column values in the DSN_STATEMNT_TABLE
  • Tune and rewrite SQL queries to improve efficiency
  • Develop a set of performance guidelines
