Description
This course is a lecture-only class designed to teach DB2 professionals the components of Data Sharing, how these components interact with OS/390 system services, and how to plan for and implement DB2 for OS/390 Data Sharing.
Audience
Experienced DB2 Data Sharing professionals responsible for planning and implementing DB2 for OS/390 Data Sharing.
Prerequisite
A strong DB2 background with production DB2 experience preferred.
Objectives
Students will be able to:
- describe an OS/390 Parallel Sysplex environment
- describe DB2 for OS/390 Data Sharing components
- plan for DB2 Data Sharing
- understand how the mechanics of DB2 Data Sharing uses OS/390 Sysplex services (Group Buffer Pools, Locking Structure, and SCA)
- discuss the installation and migration considerations of DB2 for OS/390 Data Sharing
- use DB2 and OS/390 Data Sharing commands
- describe the Data Sharing enhancements included in DB2 for OS/390 Versions 5,6, and 7
- discuss the distributed considerations for Data Sharing
- understand the major performance issues in tuning a Data Sharing installation
