N-way Data Sharing

Description

This course introduces N-way data sharing and explains how IMS, the IRLM, and the Coupling Facility interact to protect the integrity of IMS databases. Written exercises reinforce the concepts.

Audience

IMS system programmers, DBAs, and technical support staff who need to evaluate or implement N-way data sharing for an IMS/DB environment.

Prerequisite

IMS Concepts or IMS database support experience.

Objectives

Students will be able to:

  • explain N-way data sharing and the support roles played by IMS, the IRLM, OS/390 software, and the Coupling Facility hardware
  • implement an N-way data sharing environment using DBRC, the IRLM, and the Coupling Facility
  • use IMS and OS/390 commands to control the N-way data sharing environment
  • identify failures and recover from them
  • monitor the N-way data sharing environment
  • implement options to improve the performance of the N-way data sharing environment
