Description

This workshop presents an in-depth look at core components required for building the next generation of web solutions. In class, the student will see a small-scale development cycle completed with the use of Java Technology and Database Connectivity, and understand how the technology is implemented into an actual working environment.

Audience

Professional Java programmers who want to us JSP and Servlets to create the front end of their J2EE web applications.

Prerequisite

HTML, Java, JavaScript, and basic knowledge of the Internet development.

Objectives

Students will be able to:

  • build data-driven Web applications with server-side Java technologies
  • add a Web interface to databases using JSP
  • generate dynamic Web pages with JavaServer Pages (JSP)
  • develop JSP custom tags to minimize scriptlet code
  • apply XSL style sheets to convert XML data to HTML
  • understand the fundamentals of web programming with JavaServer Pages 1.2 and Java Servlets 2.3
  • design and implement JSP tag libraries
  • use JSP with JDBC databases and XML documents
  • design scalable and maintainable dynamic web applications
  • understand the role of JSP and Servlets in relation to the Java 2 Enterprise Edition
