Basic Assembler Programming

Description

This entry-level course is designed to build basic IBM Assembler language programming skills. The lectures and lab work cover basic Assembler instructions and formats as well as program creation and conventions.

Audience

Application or system programmers who code, test, or maintain Assembler programs in an IBM mainframe environment.

Prerequisite

TSO/ISPF and OS/390 JCL.

Objectives

Students will be able to:

  • describe the IBM architecture
  • understand the use of packed character and binary data
  • design and code simple Assembler programs
  • interpret a listing
  • assemble and decode instructions
  • use the IBM Reference card
