Unix Essential Operations

Description

This course teaches the commands and methods needed to set up and manage a Unix system. The course uses a problem solving approach in the lab exercises to teach advanced topics for long-term management of the system.

Audience

Unix system administrators.

Prerequisite

Introduction to Unix or equivalent experience.

Objectives

Students will be able to:

  • install, update, and boot the Unix operating system
  • set up user accounts and directories
  • manage printer queues
  • perform backups for integrity and performance reasons
  • monitor the system for performance
  • set up and configure network software
